Storytelling Activity

On September 26th, my class had a “story telling” activity which was held at Mr. Vilya’s class. It was a fun activity which we had to tell the story on our posters we made before. Still, it was my first experience having such an awesome story telling class.

First, my friends had to introduce our posters. Mr. Vilya as our lecturer observed those posters one by one and sometimes asked to us about our posters. I had the “signal man” task so I didn’t make poster, but I had to observe my friend’s poster with Mr. Vilya and my other group members. I wrote down on my note all about those posters presented by my classmates, while my group members took some photos of the activity. After that, we had a photo session. It was fun because it was my first experience having an awesome photo session with all of my classmates and also my lecturer, Mr. Vilya.

Many posters had been made at that time. I had a chance to observe posters from both Mujib’s group and Fahri’s group. Mujib’s group had the “The Body Snatcher” story while Fahri’s group had the “The Gift of The Magi” story.

The story from Mujib’s group, The Body Snatcher, told about McFarlane and Fettes who were involved in a criminal case, body snatching. Those two men did that in order to fulfill the materials needed for their anatomy research. Mujib’s group put their perceptions about the story in a form of a burned colored poster. Firstly, they searched the best illustration related with the story in the internet. Secondly, they began to draw the illustration on the poster. Thirdly, they colored the poster and burned the side of that amazing poster to give horror atmosphere to the readers. It was an anti-mainstream poster I have ever seen.

The story from Fahri’s group, The Gift of The Magi, told about couple named Della and Jimmy. Della wanted to give a gift for Jimmy but she didn’t have enough money to buy anything, so she sold her hair and began to look for the perfect gift for her husband, a golden chain for her husband’s golden watch. Meanwhile, at the same time, Jimmy wanted to give a gift to his wife too. He sold his golden watch and bought a special comb for his wife. When the night before Christmas came, they wanted to give their gift but they all shocked because of their own act before. Jimmy bought a useless comb for his bald wife and Della bought useless golden chain for his husband’s sold watch. The story ended with a comparison of Jimmy and Della’s gifts to the gifts that the Magi gave to Baby Jesus in the manger in the biblical story of Christmas.

Fahri’s group put their perceptions in a form of a poster too. Firstly they read the whole “The Gift of The Magi” story in the internet. Secondly they prepared their tools and materials required for the making of the poster. Thirdly they began to make illustrations based on the story they had by drawing and coloring the poster. They were so creative.
