sister in Birmingham New York, he suddenly inspired by nostalgic conversation.
Irving locked himself in his room and wrote nonstop all night until he had done
the first draft “Rip Van Winkle”. He read it to his hosts at breakfast the next
morning. Irving asked his brother, Ebeneezer, to assist with publication in
United States. It was successful and reach over 2000 copies of the first octavo-sized
installment. "Rip Van Winkle" has been adapted to theater, cartoons,
television, and other media many times.
- Relation The Story with America’s History
The
story takes place in New York near the Catskill Mountain, before and after
revolutionary war 1775 -1783. Rip escaped to the mountains to get away from his
wife rule that wants him to do work. He met a group of dwarfs playing ninepins
and accepted their offer of a drink of liquor and promptly fall asleep. When he
woke up, 20 years later. When he went back to his town many things have
changed. This was similar to America’s journey because before the revolutionary
war, America was under English rule. And after the war America was free from
English and could make their own rules.
