The story takes place in New York near the Catskill Mountain, before and after revolutionary war 1775 -1783. Rip escaped to the mountains to get away from his wife rule that wants him to do work. He met a group of dwarfs playing ninepins and accepted their offer of a drink of liquor and promptly fall asleep. When he woke up, 20 years later. When he went back to his town many things have changed. This was similar to America’s journey because before the revolutionary war, America was under English rule.
