The Role of Deliberated Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance

The Role of Deliberated Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance

Deliberated  Pratice is a special type of practice that is purposeful and systematic. It means deliberate practice  requires focused attention and  conducted with the specific goal of improving performance.
Deliberated Practice is different with usual practice. So much people think that we want to expert in a specific skill, we have to do that specific skill continually, Yes actually that right but that is not deliberated practice.
Practice just a normal everyday routine that you do to get better at whatever skill you’re working at whereas Deliberated Practice is going to take some mental power and a bit more effort than usual because its being focused to improving performance. It’s mean Practice  not makes perfect, perfect practice that makes perfect. So if you want to expert in specific skill you can’t only repeated a lot , you have to pay attention your repetition.
In the book “The Role of Deliberated Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance”Deliberate practice is characterized by several elements. That is motivation, clarity  target and planer-rehearsal, feedback continuously demanding, and repetition
Let’s take a look at each of those to better understand what is mean
1.  Motivation
You need to have enough motivation to deliberated practice. Without enough motivation, you will get bored and ready to drop. One way to come along motivation is find the Strong Why, why do you have to getting of the best of this skill
2. Clarity Goals and Traning Planer
What is the goals of your training? Without clarity targets and plans you will not achieve anything. For example Kobe Bryant, NBA basketball player, he has one main target in his training. It is being able to do three-point throws from any area. His training plan is simple: do 1000 three-point throws every day.
3.   Feedback continuously
You need to get information about your performance as soon as possible. So you know what needs to be improved from your performance. For example, when Kobe Bryant did the above exercise, every time he missed the target, he could immediately check  body position, what he thought and hoe he felt. So he can correct it immediately in the next shot.
4.   Repetition
Can you imagine 1000 throws every day? Keep it mind, it’s not just repeat but repetition with improvements. Focus on what you need to improve so that your performance gets better.
According Ericsson, an experts ordinarily have similarities in doing exercise routine
a.    They practice without resting during one hours
b.    They practice in the morning with fresh mind
c.    They practice 4-5 time a day , around one hours
d.    If they don’t rest enough, they can get exhaustion
Deliberated Practice is different from ordinary training, not just enough to repeating. It is needs commitment, focus, effort, without reward immediately and often unpleasant when you decide to do it.
